Underbelly.
Matt’s work comes with no text to explain or to transcend the insight of the piece. You not only watch but will be carried inside of the mindset of thought on many levels.
About The Artist:
Matt Burlingame was born in a small town in Michigan where he learned to be a man from an unfortunate combination of television and catholic school. Through the focus lent him by these social institutions, and the looming haze belched from Detroit’s automotive factories, his vision began to come clear.
The results, which are now in display in front of you equal the artist’s thoughts, assumptions, and scenarios on about what is happening all around us. Burlingame strives not to show the beauty inside Monet’s lilies.
Instead, he goes to the bottom of the murky pond and digs in the sludge below. It is art that depicts the depravity of society in its most blatant forms. Most importantly, it is made with a sense of humor. To understand his work is to understand a certain uneasiness within us all. Laughing at its message means he has achieved his goal.
Burlingame languishes in Los Angeles, where is work has appeared at several galleries, including La Luz De Jesus, Copro Nason, L’Imagerie, and the Cannibal Flower.
His work is 100% handmade, using no store-bought hogwash.
